Featured banner A featured banner is a highly visible graphic, usually located at the top of a page or social media profile, intended to highlight specific content.

Feels “Feels” is social media slang used for intense feelings or emotions. It is a shortened version of “feelings” often seen in captions or comments. If a post evokes strong emotions, you might say it “hit you in the feels”.

Filter A filter is a digital effect that you can apply to your photo or video before uploading it to social media.

Finsta A finsta is a secret Instagram account. It is short for “fake Instagram” and is created to share more personal content with a limited group of close friends.

Fire On social media, “fire” is slang indicating something is awesome or really cool. When people describe an outfit or a new song as “fire,” they mean it is super impressive. The fire emoji 🔥 is often used similarly.

FYP (For You Page) The FYP is a personalized content feed found on popular social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Gatekeeping Gatekeeping involves controlling who gains access to something. On social media, you may observe gatekeeping within niche groups or fan communities.

Gen X Gen X (short for Generation X) refers to the demographic born approximately between 1965 and 1980. They fall between Baby Boomers and Millennials.

Gen Y Gen Y, also known as Millennials, refers to the generation born between the early 1980s and the mid-1990s (typically 1981–1996).

Gen Z Gen Z, short for Generation Z, refers to people born approximately between 1997 and 2012.
